Our Story
It all started with a dog named Maverick — a golden retriever with endless curiosity, a talent for finding trouble, and a face you just can’t say no to. Our daily walks became a running comedy show: Maverick sniffing every post and bush, dutifully checking his “pee-mail,” while I cracked jokes with other dog walkers who (to their credit) kept laughing.
What began as light-hearted commentary turned into something more. After years working in corporate America — including a long stretch at Microsoft — I found myself unexpectedly made redundant. It was a turning point. For the first time in decades, I had space to return to something I’d left behind: my love of art, design, and creativity.
And so Made by Maverick was born.
This brand is a celebration of everyday adventures, wagging tails, and the joyful chaos of life with dogs. It brings together everything I’ve always loved: clever ideas, bold design, and the kind of humor only a muddy paw print can inspire. Every design starts with a spark from Maverick’s daily antics — and sometimes, memories of the laughs we shared with friends on the trail.
We’re not about chasing trends. We’re here to make things that make people smile — soft tees, cozy hoodies, mugs and gifts that tell a story, and maybe spark a conversation at the dog park.

Meet Maverick
Breed: Golden Retriever
Nickname: Double XL
Age: Classified (Top Dog clearance required)
Hobbies: Paddle boarding, kayaking, pool parties, stealing hearts
Maverick isn’t just the face of the brand — he is the brand. At 8 weeks old he was already 20 pounds of love and fluff, earning him the nickname “Double XL,” complete with his own country anthem (yes, it’s sung by Keith Anderson). With the lyrics “I’m a lean, mean, love machine that likes to be held,” he’s been melting hearts ever since.
He’s all charm and cuddles, with a heart too big for his golden frame. Maverick has never met a person he didn’t adore — and they tend to feel the same way. Despite being born without tear ducts, he’s been under the care of a wonderful veterinary ophthalmologist (affectionately called his Eye Dogtor) who crafted him a pair through two surgeries. These days, he’s doing great — though the cysts in his eyes mean he’s better at catching hearts than catching treats.
Maverick’s social life is legendary. He and his best friend Jasper (a Boxer with access to a custom-built doggie swimming pool) throw pool parties that are the stuff of local lore. His partner in mischief is Hazel, the Princess Leia of next door, and if Maverick ever went missing, we’d check Bill’s backyard first — beer in paw, Maverick would be holding court with his favorite human.
You can usually find him out on the water — paddle boarding with me or kayaking with his dad, Paul — or testing out the next design drop. And yes, there will absolutely be a shirt about his Eye Dogtor. Stay tuned.
